Surveys Your seller, insurance agent or lender should be able to tell you early in the process if your property is in a Flood Zone. If the property you are buying is in Flood Zone, your insurance agent will need a Flood Elevation Certificate to properly quote and bind a new flood insurance policy. If your title company ordered your survey, in most cases a Flood Elevation Certificate will be included if one is needed.
If you are in a Flood Zone, do not wait for a Flood Elevation Certificate to start shopping for flood insurance. You should inform your insurance agent that a certificate will be provided to them prior to closing by your title company. Give your insurance agent the contact information for your title company. Call your title company and give them the contact information for your insurance agent and ask them to forward the certificate when available.
